Earth Day Adventures at Mount Rainier: Embracing the Outdoors
Located in the heart of the Pacific Northwest, Mount Rainier is committed to reducing its environmental impact and creating a sustainable experience for all visitors.
Earth Day 2025 is shaping up to be a monumental celebration at Mount Rainier. With new initiatives aimed at addressing critical ecological challenges, our park is taking significant steps to ensure future guests can continue to explore and marvel at its breathtaking landscapes. Here’s how we’re contributing to sustainability and how you can join us on this eco-friendly adventure.
Earth Day Initiatives at Mount Rainier
At Mount Rainier, Earth Day isn’t just a single day; it’s a year-round commitment. We’ve embraced various sustainability initiatives designed to care for the environment, enhance guest experiences, and build a stronger connection between visitors and nature. Here’s how we’re putting our promise into action.
Environmental Initiatives
- Water Conservation
With regional snowpack levels at only 50-60%, water conservation has become more critical than ever. Mount Rainier is dedicated to preserving this precious resource by promoting responsible usage and offering water bottle filling stations throughout our locations. - Electric Vehicle Charging Stations
Mount Rainier is proud to support sustainable transportation with accessible Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations at both the National Park Inn and Paradise Inn. We’re creating EV-friendly spaces that make it easy for you to reduce your carbon footprint during your visit.
Safety Initiatives
- Operational Key Access
To ensure guest and staff safety, we’ve implemented secure key tracking systems to prevent unauthorized access to restricted areas. - Rodent Control
We’ve established comprehensive rodent control procedures for public spaces and employee housing, enhancing health and safety for everyone on-site.
Sustainability Efforts You’ll Notice
- Plastic reductions are a key focus. We’ve eliminated straws entirely, and single-use plastics now account for less than 1% of our operations.
- Only reusable bags are available in our gift shops.
- All to-go food is served using compostable flatware and containers.
- Six transportation vans and two maintenance trucks are now powered by propane.
- Our guest rooms feature automatic lighting and recycling bins, so your stay is as eco-friendly as possible.
- We donate all partially used toiletries and no-longer-useful linens to local rescue missions, ensuring nothing goes to waste.
Quality Initiatives
- We’ve created enriching activities for both guests and employees to enhance your connection with nature. Every visit here is designed to be inspiring and unforgettable.
What You Can Do to Support & Celebrate Earth Day
Caring for the environment isn’t something we can do alone—it takes a community. Here’s how you can do your part and make a difference during your visit to Mount Rainier:
- Opt for Sustainable Transport – Use public transportation or carpool with friends and family to reduce your carbon footprint. And if you have an electric vehicle, make the most of our EV charging stations during your stay.
- Minimize Waste – Be sure to bring a reusable water bottle and shopping bag. By reusing items, you’ll help eliminate disposable plastics and waste at the park.
- Respect the Land – Carry out whatever you carry in and stick to designated trails to protect fragile ecosystems.
